Admission
Admission Requirements
- Participants should have at least an undergraduate or first degree (B.A., M.A., Diploma etc.).
- Participants are expected to work across various disciplines and regions. They should show interest in non-western countries as well as in film production and research in e.g. Asia, Africa, Latin America.
- Proficiency in English (fluent in both written and spoken) is a must. You do not need to give us any certificate (TOEFL, etc.) to prove your proficiency in English - We trust that our applicants are able to judge their own capacity in completing an M.A. level course in English.
- Participants should have basic technical skills in film, video or photography.
- Participants must have adequate electronic equipment in order to deal with various multimedia materials (such as Skype). High speed Internet access and a personal email account are compulsory. Owning a basic mini-DV-camera capable of uploading small videos is useful.

Application process 2012
Our application process for the start of the program in October 2012 will open on March 1st, 2012 and close on April 30th 2012.
APPLICATION PERIOD: March 1st - April 30th 2012 !!!
First step:
You apply online via a central university website: please follow this link (will be published on March 1st, 2012), scroll down and click on "Online Bewerbung starten" (An English version of the assistant will be available). An "Online-Bewerbungs PDF" with an application number will be generated for you.
Second step:
We ask you to upload the following documents inside the online portal:
- 1. Completion of the application form
- 2. A curriculum vitae together with a photo (preferably of recent date and passport size) or a copy of the passport
- 3. Certificate of your BA, MA, Diploma or Magister
Please note: If you have not yet graduated, you may send copies of your transcipts along with the expected date of receiving your diploma. You must have your certified diploma for registration in the Fall. - 4. Statement of your reasons/motivation for the application for the Master's Program in Visual and Media Anthropology, as well as your expectations of the program. (about 2 pages)

5. Proof of financial sufficiency (e.g. own or sponsors bank statemant together with a letter of awareness / pass sheets)
You may also have to include the following::
- Applicants from China: a form from the "Akademische Prüfstelle" (APS) of the German embassy confirming the validity of your university degree.
- With all certificates that are neither in English, French nor German, please send a translation by a certified translator.
Third step: Please print out your "Online-Bewerbungs PDF" with your application number and send ONLY this document to the address below. (Note: your application can only be processed with the arrival of this hard copy within the deadline. The deadline is NOT defined by the post stamp, but the actual arrival at the University on monday April 30th 2012!!!)

Applicants will be informed about their status in mid-June 2012.
Accepted candidates must register at the Freie Universität Berlin during the first In-house classes in Berlin and provide the original of their university diploma (a certified translation when required). Accepted students can also enroll before the In-house classes in person, once they have received their official admission letter.
