About the Institute

The Freie Universität Berlin founded the Institute, originally named the Center for Anti-Trust Law in 1986. The Institute’s main research areasare European competition law, state-aid law, energy law and telecommunication law. Largescale commentaries on energy and telecommunication law are edited in the Institute and the Brussels Commentary on European and German Competition Law is published by it. This gives an impression of the Institute‘s mainareas of interest.

The Institute offers continuing education inform of academic conferences and workshopson energy and telecommunication law as well asseminars on German and European economic law.

These events are not only attended by students, doctoral candidates and foreign scholarship holdersbut also by jurists from ministries, companies, law firms and associations. With its location in Boltzmannstr. 3 in Berlin-Dahlem, the Institute is integrated into the Department of Law. The university institute issupported by the Institut für Energie- und Regulierungsrecht Berlin e.V. (Institute for Energy and Regulatory Law Berlin Inc.) which is a non-profit association for the promotion of energy and telecommunication law (see www.enreg.eu).

The executive director of the Institute is Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h.c. Franz-Jürgen Säcker.
